a nod to Hurricane Sandy

A few years ago I began teaching my fourth grade students about the history of A Little Golden Book publications.  We studied the history of the Great Depression, along with the immigrant artists who because quite renown in their own rights as the years passed.  To culminate the lesson, my students mimicked the artists/writers who teamed up to create these books, and made their own folios.   Serendipitously, our wonderful art teacher had just finished instruction in pastel blending!

This is the mini-example I created for them in 2010 and I thought today, of all days, it would be timely to share this with you, dear readers.

Freely drawn images with No. 2 pencil using inexpensive pastels and cotton balls for blending.
